After a 7-2 regular season culminating in a win over Dundee-Crown, 55-12, the Trojans will now turn their focus to the Wildcats of Libertyville for their round one matchup here at Al Bohrer Field on Friday night at 6:30.
Cary-Grove utilized their stifling defense and their effective offense to get here, and that aforementioned defense, perhaps one of the best in the state of Illinois, will be put to the test early on in the playoffs against QB Quinn Schambow (Oklahoma State commit as a baseball catcher) and his lethal group of receivers.
“[He’s] got a really good arm,” Coach Brad Seaburg stated. “He does a really good job of extending the plays, and then he’s got a good group of receivers that he throws it to as well.
“They can score points really fast. We’ve gotta be good every single play, be disciplined, and make them earn everything they get.”
As for that CG defense, which has been strong throughout 2023, Coach Seaburg said this about their efforts this season:
“We’ve tackled really well, and I think we’ve played against some good competition in our conference here as well that has helped us improve throughout the year.”
It will be seen what those weekly defensive improvements will lead to against the Wildcats on Friday night.
Coach Seaburg was pleased with the offense’s performance against Dundee-Crown as CG capped off a great season offensively with a point-performance over the half-century mark.
“[We] finished drives, had some long runs and scored when we needed to,” he said.
It will be intriguing to see what big plays the offense can produce in round one, notably with running backs Andrew Prio and Logan Abrams leading the way.
