Taylor Swift has been a very visible and vibrant good-luck charm for the Kansas City Chiefs, as they have won each game she has attended. CG’s team needed to rally after a tight loss to PR last week, so we will see if she can hand out some good “karma” for the Trojans going forward.
Just like against Jacobs a couple of weeks ago, Cary-Grove struggled to get going on offense and make stops on defense.
But just like against Jacobs a couple of weeks ago, the Trojans were able to “shake it off” and get themselves off to the races in a commanding win, truly playing the part of “Anti-Hero” in Hampshire’s view on Superhero night.
Beating the Whip-Purs 41-21 last Friday, the CG offense scored more than half of their points in the second two frames and their special teams squad had yet another return for a score. The defense began and continued to stop Hampshire on short drives.
“We just executed,” Coach Seaburg said. “(Andrew) Prio ran a punt return back for a touchdown, we had good field position. Played well in the second half, got some key stops, made them punt, and then we were able to execute on offense.”
The Trojans special teams group may be one of the best in the state, as they have taken four total returns back for scores in a mere six weeks, and other returns have sparked scoring drives for the offense.
There is certainly no “blank space” on this team, as all three phases, led by special teams, have produced.
“It starts with having a very talented player in Prio, and Rocen has had two punt returns also this year,” Coach Seaburg said.
“We’ve got two talented guys returning, and then we’ve had great blocking, too. It’s been a combination of individual efforts and talent.”
Homecoming Saturday puts the Trojans up against Huntley, and Coach Seaburg aims to slow down the Red Raiders “style” of play in order to get a win.
“Right now, they’re clicking on all cylinders on offense. Quarterback throws the ball really well, they’ve got a really good running back, their offensive line blocks well, they’ve got good receivers.
“Anything we can do to disrupt those three phases of the game is what we are going to need to do.”
If the Trojans can pull that off, it will make their fans’ “wildest dreams” reach the surface.
