Sometimes in life, there is a moment that will stick with you forever, not only for how much it stings, but more importantly how much it will motivate you to improve.
The Trojans experienced one of those moments on Friday night when they fell to the Wolves, and it hurts. Although the Trojans offense was able to grab an early 7-0 lead and notch a late touchdown in the fourth, the CG offense also lost fumbles on two occasions to give Prairie Ridge their first 14 points of the contest and a lead, to boot.
“We did some things well, but in a close game like this right here, you can’t turn the ball over,” Coach Seaburg stated. “We had two turnovers, a lot of penalties, and did a lot of uncharacteristic things tonight.”
The defense also struggled to make stops on multiple Wolves possessions, and defensive flags extended PR’s drives, notably one to take a 21-14 lead late in the fourth that sliced over 5 minutes off the clock.
Coach Seaburg looks to clean that up before next week’s game against Hampshire, as he gave props to the PR offense for execution.
“Prairie Ridge, hats off to them, they made a lot of plays on third down when they needed them,” Coach Seaburg said.
While all didn’t go as planned, the special teams group did make nice plays throughout the game, with an Andrew Prio 95-yard kick return touchdown and a Peyton Seaburg punt resting inside the 5 of PR being the notables.
“Really played hard, played well,” Coach Seaburg stated. “Prairie Ridge is a really good team and they executed tonight. We just gotta get back to work tomorrow and get better.”
On the heels of this tough loss for the Trojans, Coach Seaburg lauded his group’s hard play and “giving it their all” in a game against one of the toughest teams in the FVC. He said that sometimes you won’t do well, and you just have to keep working.
“We just gotta get better,” he said. “Kids played hard, gave it their all, no doubt about it. Some nights it’s just not your night. That was tonight.”
If the Trojans are able to build on what they did well in this game as well as learn from their mistakes, they will have the motivation they need to make future Fridays “their nights” in 2023.
